Abstract
Background: Online gaming has been gaining popularity worldwide and has signi?cant impact on students including medical students. India ranks second highest in internet usage in the world according to the latest data obtained by Internet world stats (31st March, 2019). In this study we are trying to determine the association between sleeping habits and gaming among medical students., The aim of our study was to determine association between mobile usage and video gaming on sleeping habits in medical students and thereby spread awareness regarding the ill-effects of gaming disorder. This was a cross sectional study among MBBS students of GMERS Gotri, Vadodara. A digital google formMethod: containing 63 questions was designed and was administered to 600 students. Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Gaming Engagement Quesionnaire (GEQ) were applied. Data analysis was done using proportions, prevalence, graphical representation, and chi square test between: ISI and GEQ ; PSQI and GEQ. Out Of 600 students, 373 students responded. According to Insomnia SeverityResults Scale- Total Insomniacs were 100 which included 84 having subthreshold Insomnia, 15 having clinical insomnia and 1 had severe insomnia .According to PSQI 97 students were poor sleepers and 62 had insomnia according both scales The study showed signi?cantConclusion: correlation between gaming and insomnia.
