Abstract
Currently, local destructive therapy is a popular technique for treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) but prior to initiating local destructive therapy for CIN, invasive cancer must be excluded in order to avoid treatment failure.
70 patients in the colposcopy clinic at Siriraj Hospital who had satisfactory colposcopic examination and whose colposcopic diopsies revealed CIN were evaluated further by diagnostic cervical conization. Histology of the cone specimens showed carcinoma of cervix stage Ial in 7 patients who all had CIN 3 on colposcopic biopsy (7/46). Since the discrepancy of colposcopic biopsy was 10% we concluded that local destructive therapy should not be done in a patient who had colposcopic biopsy showing CIN 3.
