Activity of the Antioxidant Enzymes and RUNX2 Expression on Porous Titanium Alloy Scaffolds
(Geneva Foundation, 2024-01) Carvalho, Lais Morandini; Vasconcellos, Luana Marotta Reis de; Zutin, Elis Andrade Lima; Sartori, Elisa Mattias; Mendonca, Daniela Baccelli Silveira; Mendonca, Gustavo; Carvalho, Yasmin Rodarte
Studies have been directed towards the production of new titanium alloys, aiming replacement of TiAlV alloy in the future. Therefore, many mechanisms related to biocompatibility and chemical characteristics have been studied in the field of implantology, but until now, enzyme defenses against oxidative stress have been underexplored. The objective of this study was to evaluate the activity of the antioxidant enzymes Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Catalase (CAT) in porous scaffolds of Ti-6 Aluminium-4 Vanadium, Ti-35 Niobium and Ti-35 Niobium-7 Zirconium-5 Tantalum. Porous titanium alloy scaffolds were prepared by powder metallurgy. Mesenchymal stem cells from mouse femur were used. After 24 hours the cells plated under the scaffolds were analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The antioxidant enzymes activity was measured after 72 hours of cell plating and after 3,7 and 14-days, cells were collected to evaluate RUNX2 expression by real-time PCR. The SEM images showed the presence of interconnected pores and growth, adhesion and cell spread in the 3 scaffolds. Our results for SOD and CAT were shown to be better for the TiNbZrTa and TiAlV scaffolds. The TiNb scaffold presented less activity for both enzymes. Despite differences between the scaffolds, there were not any statistical differences (p>0.05). RUNX2 presented high expression for TiNbZrTa and TiAlV at day 7 and presented statistical differences just for TiNbZrTa from the control group (TiAlV day 3). At day 14, all scaffolds showed expression above the baseline and exhibited statistical differences from the control group. It was possible to conclude that, as regards antioxidant enzymes, we are not able to confirm any differences which would justify the replacement of TiAlV, but gene expression showed a better capacity for mesenchymal stem cell differentiation in TiNbZrTa, making it a good choice for biomedical applications.

    Supernumerary Teeth: An Overview
(Longdom Publishing SL, 2017-12) Patil, Anil Kumar
Supernumerary teeth (SNT) are extra teeth to the normal complement of teeth in both dentitions. These SNT could be appear in any region of both jaws. Males are commonly affected by SNT than the females. Most commonly seen SNT are mesiodens, very rarely seen SNT are distomolars. Identification and localization of SNT are very important for diagnosis and management. SNT may cause various complications that include delayed or impaired eruption of adjacent teeth to cyst formation, and eruption into nasal cavity. Hence, the early identification and appropriate management is essential to prevent the possible complications.

Influence of storage temperature on vickers microhardness of resin composite
(Longdom Publishing SL, 2018-12) Almozainy, Mayyadah
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of three storage temperatures on microhardness of high and low viscosity bulk-fill materials and compare them with conventional resin-based composite materials. Materials and method: Six composite resin-based materials were used in this study (TN, TNB, TNF, FZ250, FB and FBF) samples were subdivided into three groups based on the pre-curing storage temperature (5°C, 23°C and 37°C). Light polymerization for each material was performed based on the manufacturer’s recommendation using Bluephase G2 curing unit (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) in a high-intensity mode with an irradiance of 1200 mW/cm2. Vickers hardness values of top and the bottom surfaces of each sample were evaluated using (NOVA 130 series, Vickers and Knoop hardness testing instrument) under a 200 g load with a dwell time of 10 sec. Also three indentations with the random distance of 1 mm were taken from the top and the bottom surfaces of each sample and a mean Vickers hardness (VHN) value were calculated (n=18 top and n=18 bottom). The mean bottom/top ratio was calculated by dividing VHN of the bottom surface by VHN of the top surface. Results: When the tested materials were stored at room temperature (23°C) before testing in the present study, they failed to reach the minimum 80% of the mean bottom to top hardness value ratio except for FZ250 and FBF, where they reached 97.8% and 83.2% respectively. Where in samples that were stored refrigerated at 5°C all the materials have reached the minimum 80% of the mean bottom to top hardness value ratio except for FBF (77.3%) and TB (77.2%). On the other hand, the only material that reached the minimum 80% of the mean bottom to top hardness value ratio when the materials were stored at 37°C was FZ250 (93.5%). Conclusion: Despite the promising results from this preliminary study, regarding improvement of microhardness with refrigerated composite resins, further research has to be conducted. The enhancement of hardness values associated with preheated composites could be beneficial in countries with warm climate such as Saudi Arabia. The association of precooled composite resin and the use of the LED curing units could be recommended to improve resin-based composite hardness. Further research is needed to evaluate the other mechanical properties and whether or not they are influenced by storage temperature.

Preventive Prosthodontics: Overdenture With Ceka Attachment: A Case Report
(Longdom Publishing SL, 2017-09) Nayak, Karvika; Rahangdale, Tripty; Shrivastava, Sourabh; Kotnala, Pragya
Functional stability and the preservation of remaining alveolar bone are primary, and often elusive, goals when restoring the partially edentulous arch. Conventional complete denture wearers experience a number of problem such as instability of the mandibular dentures, inability to masticate food. Overdenture increases the retention , improves support, preserve the alveolar bone by decreasing the rate of resorption and improves the masticatory efficiency resulting in improved quality of life and oral health. The teeth which are preserved play a vital role by improvement of crown root ratio, provide proprioception. Rehabilitation using over dentures is a widely accepted preventive approach due to its ease of fabrication and the successful prognosis. This clinical report describes a multidisciplinary approach for complete oral rehabilitation of a patient with two remaining natural teeth using precision attachment (ceka Preci‑Clix Radicular RC) for mandibular overdenture and conventional overdenture.
