Item Temporary anchorage devices in orthodontics.(2009-07) Singaraju, Gowri sankar; Murthy, VasuAnchorage control is one of the main aspects of orthodontic treatment plan. A good appliance system should put minimum taxation of anchorage on the anchor units. The structures present with in the confinement of oral cavity are very less in number. In such cases the anchor unit gets its reinforcement from extraoral structures or intraoral appliances. Extraoral anchorages have their inherent drawbacks and most of them rely on patient cooperation. The use of implants in orthodontics to reinforce the anchorage is a recent concept. The purpose of this article is to review the implants in the context of orthodontics which are called as TAD- temporary anchorage devices.Item Deep overbite—A review.(2009-07) Sreedhar, Cvvr; Baratam, SreenivasAbstract :- Deep overbite or Deep bite is one of the common malocclusion which has a varied of etiologies. The etiology may be present at different levels of structures, Viz. dental skeletal, combination of skeletal and dental etc..,The treatment plan depends upon the severity and the age of the patient. A review of deep bite in general with due reference to some treated cases is done in this articleItem Subject Review MCQs.(2009-07) Annals and Essences of DentistryItem Orthdodontic Management of Medically Compromised Patients.(2009-10) Reddy, Karunakar; Anitha, EthamukkalaThe nature of the orthodontic patient base seeking treatment continues to grow. Some of these patients may have potentially medical compromises or conditions. As such there is no absolute contraindication of orthodontic treatment in most of these conditions but may require a slightly modified protocol. This article reviews the orthodontic treatment Protocol for some common medical conditions.Item Subject Review MCQ.(2009-10) Annals and Essences of DentistryItem Editor's queries and comments.(2009-10) Annals and Essences of DentistryItem TONGUE THRUST HABIT - A review.(2009-10) Singaraju, Gowri sankar; kumar, ChetanThere is interrelation ship between the form and function. The different abnormal habits may effect the form of orofacial structures. The presence of one oral habit may induce the other. In this review article a new induction chart is prepared to show the interrelation between different abnormal habits and their effect on form. The chart also in turn explains how form can lead to development of different habits. Thus there is interrelation ship between form and function.Item Management of Open Bite.(2009-10) Mandava, Prasad; Kumar, AshokOpen bite is a malocclusion that occurs in the vertical plane, characterized by lack of vertical overlap between the maxillary and Mandibular dentition. The anterior open bites particularly skeletal open bites are called as “stigmata of malocclusion”. The varied etiological characterstic features of openbite are discussed in this article. Openbites are easy to diagnose but difficult to retain. The various modes of treatment are also discussed depending upon the age of the patient.Item hods of Identification in Forensic Dentistry.(2010-01) Ratnakar, P; Singaraju, G SItem Queries For the Editor.(2010-01) Annals and Essences of DentistryItem Polystotic Fibrous Dysplasia - A case report.(2010-01) Raju, D RamaFibrous dysplasia, a benign fibro osseous condition involving one or more bones of the cranial and extra cranial skeleton, consists of non-encapsulated lesion which shows replacement of a normal bone by cellular fibrous tissue containing islands of metastatic bone (Edwards 1984). It has been classified by W.H.O. as developmental in origin. Fibrous dysplasia of bone is one of the most perplexing diseases of the osseous tissue. It is a lesion of unknown etiology, uncertain pathogenesis and diverse histopathology. A case report of fibrous dysplasia is presented here and discussed in detail.Item Management of Acute Onset Chest Pain in the Dental Practice.(2010-01) Reddy, E Siva PrasadIn modern times a lot of advances have been made in the treatment of Cardiac diseases and it is not uncommon to come across patients who are leading almost a normal life even after having a “Triple / Quadruple” by pass. On the other side modern dietary practices and sedentary lifestyles are responsible for the increased incidence of coronary heart diseases1. Recently many states have introduced emergency response services like ‘108’ services in Andhra Pradesh. This has made some improvements to the emergency care and it is now possible to successfully manage even more number of these cardiac emergencies. In this article every attempt has been made by keeping in mind the limited knowledge of a practicing Dental Surgeon regarding the definitive management of coronary events and the presentation has been designed in such a way that it can be easily adopted and followed by a general dental practitionerItem Lingual Orthodontics - An Overview.(2010-01) Agarwal, AnirudhEsthetics is one of the major goals in orthodontic treatment Lingual orthodontics is the only orthodontic technique which is really invisible and permits the patient to have a beautiful smile not only after, but also during treatment and allowing a realistic control of the results. This article reviews the development, advantages and disadvantages, bonding techniques, biomechanics, and treatment procedures of the lingual appliance The aim of this article is to give a broad view of Lingual Orthodontics concepts and treatment in a simplified way, to encourage the orthodontist to use this important treatment modality regularly in their practice.Item Amelogenesis Imperfecta - A Case Report.(2010-01) Reddy, Y Narendranath; Reddy, E Shiva PrasadAmelogenesis imperfecta (Al) is a diverse collection of inherited diseased that exhibit quantitative or qualitative tooth enamel defects in the absence of systemic manifestations. Also known by varied names such as Hereditary of enamel dysplasia, Hereditary brown enamel, Hereditary brown opalescent teeth, this defect is entirely ectodermal, since mesodermal components of the teeth are basically normal. The Al trait can be transmitted by either autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, or X-linked modes of inheritance. It is necessary to diagnose the case and provide durable functional and esthetic management of these patients, where the unaesthetic appearance has a definite negative psychological impact.Item Review MCQs.(2010-01) Annals and Essences of DentistryItem Congenitally Missing Teeth : A Case Report.(2010-01) Reddy, Y Narendranath; jain, UpendraCongenitally missing teeth have been observed as one of the most common human dental developmental anomalies. In the permanent dentition the prevalence rate of true partial exodontias is 3.5% to 6.5%. The most likely factors of hypondontia are hereditary, environmental factors and evolution. Various studies have demonstrated differences in frequency and Patten between sexes, and in frequencies among the races. A case of eight congenitally missing teeth is presented.Item Cementifying fibroma—A case report.(2010-01) D, Rama rajuThe etiology and pathogenesis of fibro-osseous lesions remain a subject of investigation. Various explanations are offeredcongenital anomaly of bone, developmental defect caused by faulty embryogenesis ; hamartoma, tumor of periodontal membrane origin, mesenchymal tumor arising in spongiosa and an abnormal repair of bone after injury. Fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws form a group of conditions, which are remarkable for their clinicopathological similarities. On occasions clinician may find himself in the position of being the arbiter in the face of equivocal histological evidence. Some pathologists use the same terminology for apparently quite dissimilar lesions, and seemingly others to render the same diagnosis use variable histologic criteria. By analyzing the clinical, radiographic, gross/surgical and histological features of all lesions coded as fibro-osseous lesions we should be able to separate a clinicopathologic entity. A case of cementifying fibroma is presented here along with discussion.Item Latex Allergy - Illustrative Case Report.(2010-01) Prasad, K E VijayItem Van der woude syndrome - case report.(2010-04) Mehta, Dhaval N; Gandhi, Ketaki NGenes contains the blue prints for human growth and development. Van der Woude syndrome is a developmental disorder characterized by lip pits on lower lip, cleft palate alone or with cleft lip in some cases & missing teeth. The features of VWS are discussed here with a case report. Bilateral lip pits with submucous cleft palate and bifid uvula were appreciated in the case.Item Child, hypertension and oral health.(2010-04) Shanthi, G; Bhambal, Ajay; Saxena, SudhanshuHypertension is a major public health issue in industrialized nations. Many efforts have focused on the primary prevention and control of hypertension in adults. Nevertheless, the increasing incidence of hypertension in younger age groups has drawn attention to the severity and complications of the disease in children and adolescents. Public health implications of hypertension in children are overwhelming because many of these individuals will eventually face medical squeal into adulthood. Reproducibility of blood pressure in children can be challenging, especially in younger individuals, and the practitioner should be alert for shallow reading ranges in young children. Safe provision of dental care to hypertensive children requires knowledge about the aetiology of the elevation in blood pressure, oral manifestations, target organ damage, and possible drug interactions. This article provides an overview of hypertensive children and their oral health management. The recommendations presented in this article have been formulated using the available data regarding hypertension in children.
