Item 0.25% Bupivacaine with 8 mg Dexamethasone and 50 mcg Clonidine as adjuvant on fascia iliaca compartment block in open reduction and internal fixation surgeries to femoral fractures-a prospective randomized study(Mrs Dipika Charan of MedScience (India) Publications, 2022-03) Prasad, DS; Damarla, R.Background: Fascia iliaca compartment nerve block (FICB) is commonly preferred pain management technique in femoral fractures. Dexamethasone and clonidine as adjuvants to local anesthetics have good analgesic effect with limited adverse effect. Aim and Objectives: To assess the efficacy of bupivacaine with clonidine, bupivacaine with dexamethasone, and bupivacaine alone in fascia iliaca compartment block in cases with femoral fractures. Materials and Methods: The present prospective randomized study included a total of 120 cases undergoing proximal femoral surgeries under subarachnoid block above 21 years. The study cases were randomly divided into three study groups, i.e. 40 participants in each group. Group 1 received 0.25% bupivacaine with 2 ml normal saline, Group 2 received 0.25% bupivacaine with 50mcg clonidine, and Group 3 received with 0.25% bupivacaine with 8mg dexamethasone. Parameters such as heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), oxygen saturation levels, and visual analog scale (VAS) score was monitored and recorded. Results: The mean difference of HR between the study groups was statistically not significant (P > 0.005). The mean SBP, DBP, and VAS score was comparable between study groups. The mean analgesic duration in Group 1 was 6.01 h, in Group 2 was 13.58 h, and in Group 3 was 14.44 h. The mean difference of rescue analgesia requirement and duration of rescue analgesia was statistically significant. No adverse effects toward drugs were noticed. Conclusion: About 0.25% bupivacaine with 8 mg Dexamethasone had better analgesic duration and require minimal rescue analgesia in the first postoperative day than 0.25% bupivacaine with 50 mcg clonidine in cases undergoing femoral surgeries under FICB.Item 0.5 percent silver nitrate in treatment of burns.(1981-06-01) Agrawal, B R; Yemul, V L; Khairatkar, S NItem 0.5% Proparacain hydrochloride for clear corneal phacoemulsification in patients with co-morbid conditions.(2013-10) Kokkayil, Prathyusha; Rawre, Jyoti; Malhotra, Neena; Dhawan, BenuGenital tuberculosis is a common cause of female infertility in India. But, it is important to screen for other agents like Chlamydia trachomatis and genital Mycoplasmas as well to avoid persistence of infection and its long-term sequelae. Timely diagnosis of these infections using nucleic acid amplifi cation tests and institution of appropriate therapy will improve the conception rates in infertile women. We report a case of co-infection of Mycoplasma genitalium and Chlamydia trachomatis in an infertile female patient with genital tuberculosis. The infections were diagnosed using polymerase chain reaction, and the patient responded to a combination of antituberculosis therapy and 1 g single-dose Azithromycin.Item 0.5% Proparacain hydrochloride for clear corneal phacoemulsification in patients with co-morbid conditions.(2014-11) Joshi, Rajesh SubhashItem 1,2,3-TRIAZOLE CARBOXAMIDE DERIVATIVES AS NOVEL PROSPECTIVE ANTICANCER AGENTS: SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND IN-SILICO STUDIES(MRI Publication Pvt. Ltd., 2024-04) Sharma, Dipesh Kumar; Singh, SurabhiThe ongoing and persistent endeavour to discover effective new anticancer medications remains a steadfast objective. Presently, the focus of this research lies in exploring novel substituted derivatives of 1,2,3-triazole carboxamide. A set of novel derivatives of 1,2,3-triazole carboxamide(5a-5n) were successfully synthesized with yields ranging from satisfactory to excellent. These compounds underwent characterization using various analytical methods, such as 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectrometry. Their cytotoxic potential against four cancer cell lines—HeLa, PANC-1, HCT-116, and A-549—was evaluated in vitro. Notably, compounds 5j, 5i, 5m, and 5f displayed significant anticancer activity. Molecular docking experiments were conducted on the synthesized compounds, revealing strong binding interactions with the active sites of EGFR and CDK4-Cyclin D3. However, out of all the derivatives tested, namely 5i, 5j, 5g, 5f, and 5h, it was observed that these compounds displayed a favourable binding affinity towards both the EGFR and the CDK4-Cyclin D3 active site. The results of the study suggest that the synthesised compounds have potential as agents for cancer therapy. Furthermore, further alterations to the structure of triazole-carboxamide derivatives could lead to the development of effective anticancer drugs.Item 1,3-Bistertiary-aminomethyl pyrrocolines, a new class of hypotensive agents.(1976-01-01) Singh, G B; Gupta, C M; Nityanand, S; Srimal, R C; Nand, N; Dhawan, B NItem (1-3)(1-6)-D-glucans Modulate Immune Status and Blood Glucose Levels in Dogs.(2014-04) Vetvicka, Vaclav; Oliveira, CarlosAims: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of adding two different glucans coded as BGO1 and BGO2 into commercial feed of dogs. Study Design: We measured changes in phagocytosis, levels of IL-2 in blood, antibody formation and level of blood sugar (normal homeostasis and experimentally-induced hyperglycaemie with streptozotocin). Place and Duration of Study: Department of Pathology, University of Louisville, and Department of Research and Development, Biorigin, June 2012 and May 2013. Methodology: The technique employing phagocytosis of synthetic polymeric microspheres was used for evaluation of phagocytic activity. IL-2 production was evaluated in serum by an ELISA kit. Formation of antibodies was tested using ovalbumin as an antigen, level of specific antibodies was measured by ELISA. Blood sugar evaluation was done both in normal animals and in animals with experimentally-induced hyperglycaemie. The level of glucose in serum was measured by Antech Diagnostics. Results: In phagocytosis, both glucans significantly (P ≤0.05 level) increased the phagocytic activity of blood monocytes and neutrophils. Both glucans were active in IL-2 tests, but BG01 activity was 160% of that of BG02. Similar data were achieved in evaluation of effects on antibody response – BG01 reached OD of 0.717, whereas BG02 reached OD 0.411. Blood sugar evaluations showed no effect of glucan on normal dogs, but significant (P ≤0.05 level) reduction in dogs with hyperglycaemie (both glucans showed same activity). Conclusion: Our data showed that both glucans had significant immunomodulating effects in immune reactions in the dog model, strongly suggesting that supplementation of feed with these glucans results in improvement of biological and immunological conditions of dogs.Item 1-isopropylimidazolidine-2-thione: clinical evaluation of a new antithyroid drug.(1969-08-01) Ahuja, M M; Rao, M AItem 1-Naphthyl acetate as an alternative substrate of hemolysate cholinesterase: Direct visualization of enzyme activity within 10 minutes on polyacrylamide gels(NISCAIR-CSIR, India, 2019-09) Chowdhary, Sheemona; Bhattacharyya, Rajasri; Banerjee, DibyajyotiHemolysate cholinesterase is currently recognized as the most preferred biomarker to detect acute organophosphorus poisoning. Direct visualization of cholinesterase activity on polyacrylamide gels is routinely practiced using acetylthiocholine as a substrate. Overnight incubation with the staining solution is required to understand the enzyme activity bands on gels. Therefore, the need arises to explore rapid detection methods, which can specifically detect hemolysate cholinesterase on polyacrylamide gels. Here, we have explored alternative substrates, such as 1-NA and 2-NA which might have the potential to behave as specific substrates for the detection of hemolysate cholinesterase activity on the gels. It is observed by the in silico studies that 1-NA bind at the active site of acetylcholinesterase akin to acetylcholine (ACh) with a better fitness score. Secondly, the hemolysate cholinesterase activity, as well as its inhibition by organophosphorus pesticides is understandable within 10 min using Fast Blue RR dye for the detection of 1-NA. The organophosphorus inhibited activity is regained in the presence of cholinesterase reactivator. Moreover, the enzyme activity bands formed using 1-NA proves the specificity of the substrate for hemolysate cholinesterase as in the presence of specific acetylcholinesterase inhibitors the band formation disappears. On the other hand, ATCh requires minimum 8-12 h staining time for detection of enzyme activity band following Karnovsky and Roots protocol. Our results prove that 1-NA is an alternative substrate of hemolysate cholinesterase which specifically detects the enzyme activity on gel rapidly. We recommend 1-NA for rapid detection of hemolysate cholinesterase activity on the gels.Item A 1-year-old male child with recurrent respiratory infections since birth.(2013-07) Mutreja, Deepti; Kotru, Mrinalini; Tyagi, SeemaItem 1/f correlations in viral genomes--a Fast-Fourier Transformation (FFT) Study.(2006-06-14) Rekha, T Shashi; Mitra, Chanchal KWe have studied the presence of long-range correlations in the complete genomes of ten different dsDNA viruses and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (bakers' yeast) chromosome I. We have also studied the correlation between the distribution of the gene length and the domain of "1/f region" of their genomes. Linear regression analysis was done for the power-law region of these organisms and the slope values obtained were approximately -1, which signify the existence of "1/f noise" in the low and medium (intermediate) frequency regions. This suggests the presence of long-range correlations in their genomes. The presence of 1/f noise in a given frequency interval indicates the existence of a fractal (self-similar) structure in the corresponding range of wavelengths. The results of our study suggest that genes have correlations within themselves, and the correlations appear to be related with the scaling exponent alpha.Item 10 year institutional experience of use of buccal mucosal grafts for complex urethral reconstruction for varied indications with its outcome(Medip Academy, 2020-10) Athawale, Hemangi R.; Mane, Shivaji B.; Daginawala, TahaBackground: The objective of the study was to evaluate long term efficacy and outcome of use of buccal mucosal graft (BMG) for urethral reconstruction in varied urologic conditions in children. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 41 patients from 2009 till 2019 in our institution in which BMG was used for urethral reconstruction. Clinical findings along with surgical techniques used were noted for these patients. Postoperative outcome and complications were evaluated. Results: Mean age was 6.8 years and mean follow up was for 4 years. Out of 41 patients, BMG for substitution urethroplasty was used in 25 cases of hypospadias, 4 cases of urethral stricture, 6 cases of 46 XY disorders of sexual disorders, 4 cases of Y-duplication of urethra, and 2 cases of redo-epispadias repair. 11 patients underwent one stage repairs with a success rate of 63% and 30 patients underwent two stage repair with a success rate of 66%. Analysis and comparison of the outcome in relation to the type of repair, meatal position and number of surgical procedures prior to BMG urethroplasty was statistically insignificant. Conclusions: Buccal mucosa is an ideal graft substitute for urethroplasty. Two stage reconstructions has a slightly higher success rate than one stage reconstruction but the choice of the technique must be based on patients characteristics and on surgeons preference.Item A 10 year retrospective study of esophageal cancer from 1974-1983 in Punjab.(1987-04-01) Prabhakar, B R; Maingi, KItem A 10 Year Study Of Dissociative Stupor And Possession In Psychiatry Opd(World Wide Journals, 2019-09) Singh, Vineet Kumar; Dua, Dinesh Chandra; Dua, Pratham; Anwar, Zeeshan; Srivastava, ChhitijThe aim of the present study is to identify the incidence of Dissociative Stupor and Possessions in psychiatry OPD population. 8.92% of patients in last 10 years were in the screening group. There were 10.03% of the subjects in 2007 sliding through to 7.76% in 2016, a visible decline. Males are affected earlier (mean age 18.59 years) than females (mean age 23.4 years). The study also proved that females far outnumber males in this category of illness but in the ages between 6 to 12 years, this relationship is reversed.Item 10-Day rule for diagnostic radiology(1976-01-01) Kyaw Aung; Ku Aung Gyi; Khin Maung TinItem A 10-year experience of managing acute limb ischaemia in India.(2008-11) Turel, Mazda; Kumar, Prabhu Prem; Stephen, Edwin; Agarwal, SunilBackground. Acute limb ischaemia is threatening to both limb and life. There is little information about this disease entity from India. Methods. We did a retrospective analysis of the clinical profile of patients presenting with non-traumatic acute limb ischaemia to our department (a tertiary care centre in India) from January 1998 to December 2007. The demography, risk factors, time taken to present to the emergency from the onset of symptoms, time taken to administer the first dose of heparin upon arrival to the emergency, primary interventions and outcomes in terms of amputation rates and in-hospital mortality were studied. Results. The mean (SD) age of the 84 patients was 48.9 (14.3) years. Only one patient died (1.2%) and 24 patients had an amputation (28.6%). Among the predisposing risk factors a significant association was found between smoking and the rate of amputation. Early presentation to emergency and early administration of heparin was associated with lower amputation rates though this did not achieve statistical significance. Conclusion. Acute limb ischaemia is a catastrophic event. Smoking is a risk factor associated with poorer outcomes. Early arrival to the emergency and early administration of heparin was associated with lower amputation rates.Item A 10-year retrospective study on odontogenic tumors in Iran.(2013-03) Taghavi, Nasim; Rajabi, Moones; Mehrdad, Leili; Sajjadi, SamadObjective: The aim of this study was to review cases of odontogenic tumors diagnosed in two pathology centers in Tehran, Iran, during a 10-year period. Study Design: Patients' records were seen at two teaching pathology Centre's of Shahid Beheshti University between the months of March 2000 to 2010 with histologic diagnosis of any type of odontogenic tumors. The records were analyzed for frequency, age, sex, site, as well as clinical, radiographic and histopathologic findings. Results: Of 30706 biopsies, 4767 (15.5%) cases were diagnosed as oral and maxillofacial lesions. Among these, 720 cases were tumoral with 188 (26.1%) cases of odontogenic tumors. Tumors with odontogenic epithelium origin formed 70.2% of total numbers of odontogenic tumors. Mixed odontogenic tumors and tumors of odontogenic ectomesenchyme comprised 12.2% and 17.5% of the cases respectively. Ameloblastoma, with a frequency of 62.2% was the most common tumor in this review which was followed by odontoma and odontogenic myxoma. Conclusion: Although there are few studies on odontogenic tumors in literature, the comparison of our results with existing data shows significant differences in the distribution of tumors and age of patients, which may be due to ethnic features and geographic distribution of patients. Future studies on other ethnic groups are essential for further clarification of the findings in this research.Item A 10-year review of maternal mortality in Chon Buri Hospital, Thailand.(1993-06-01) Pinchun, P; Chullapram, T1. The overall maternal mortality rate (MMR) in Chon Buri Hospital in the 10-yr period from 1982-1991 was 51.1/100,000 livebirths. 2. The top causes of death were abortion related complications, pregnancy induced hypertension, puerperal infection and postpartum hemorrhage. 3. What we have done is to improve the quantity and quality of obstetric and medical care, solve the problem of vital statistics reports in our hospital, contact doctor in nearby hospitals in referral and interhospital OB-GYN conferences to meet and discuss both knowledge and management problems. 4. What we still faced in the last 4-yr were deaths from abortion related complications, puerperal sepsis and postpartum hemorrhage. Most of the deaths were preventable. 5. So what we have to target to lessen the MMR is to improve the obstetric and medical care, improve the quality of medical personnel in our area in KAP aspect (knowledge, attitude, practice) especially in the field of family planning to prevent unwanted pregnancies, proper prevention and management of postpartum hemorrhage, and prevention and treatment of puerperal and postabortal infection.Item 10-year Survival Rate of Laryngeal Cancer Patients in Maharat Nakhon Ratchsima Hospital(Buddhachinaraj Medical Journal, 2007-02-04) Phairuch ChangprayadPROBLEM/BACKGROUND: Laryngeal cancer is a common malignancy of the head and neck. Favorable prognosis and long-term survival rate is better than other head and neck cancers. OBJECTIVE: To study 5-year and 10-year survival rate of laryngeal cancer patients. RESEARCH DESIGN: A prospective cohort study. SETTING: Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Maharat Nakhon Ratchsima Hospital. MATERIALS and METHOD: Fifteen-year prospective data gathered from medical records of laryngeal cancer patients during January 1992 to December 2006 were analyzed. Data analysis used Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox-regression analysis with significant level at 0.05. RESULTS: Among 248 patients with histologically proven laryngeal cancer (228 males, 20 females) with age range 30-87 (mean 63.49 years); there were supraglottic 38.3%, glottic 25.4%, subglottic 3.2% and transglottic 33.1%. The overall 5-year and 10-year survival rates were 26.1% (95% confidence interval=20.37-32.20) and 19.3% (95% confidence interval=13.93-25.40) respectively. The overall 10-year survival rate by site was 10.9% for supraglottic, 24.0% for glottic, 0% for subglottic and 27.3% for transglottic. The overall 10-year survival rate for stage I through IV was 47.2%, 36.3% 15.2% and 11.5% respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Significant prognostic factors for laryngeal cancer patients are T-stage, N-stage and M-stage. Early diagnosis and treatment are the keys for better survival rates.Item 10.
