As with many other professions, Interpreting has both educational and personal qualities that are necessary for someone to possess to be successful in this field. It is not just a matter of learning the language fluently but also involves a rich cross cultural understanding and a personal sense of ethics. As one works alone frequently we have to make many independent decisions, exercise judgment, employ critical thinking, apply the benefits of practical experience, and reflect on past actions and outcomes.
