Abstract
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in academic libraries has emerged as a critical factor in enhancing educational quality, particularly in teacher training institutions where access to timely and relevant resources is essential. This study explores the level of ICT adoption and the challenges faced by libraries in government and private teacher training colleges in South Bengal, India. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 20 colleges through surveys, interviews, and on-site observations. The findings reveal significant disparities in ICT infrastructure, digital resource availability, and user training between government and private institutions. While private colleges exhibit higher levels of ICT integration, government colleges struggle with budgetary constraints, inadequate training, and outdated systems. Despite these challenges, several colleges demonstrated promising practices in promoting digital literacy and e-resource utilization. The study concludes by recommending targeted policy support, improved funding mechanisms, and enhanced training programs to ensure equitable and effective ICT implementation across both sectors.
