C-reactive protein (CRP) was found to be one of the major components of the haemolymph of A. fulica with a normal level of approximately 2 mg CRP/ml haemolymph. Immunological cross-reactivity was found between CRP from A. fulica, a mollusc and Limulus polyphemus, an arthropod. The present finding demonstrates the evolutionary significance of C-reactive protein.en_US
