Empathy and Emotional Intelligence in Leadership: Lessons from the Teachings of Jesus Christ
(MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA (MCI), 2024-12) N J, Johnson
This article explores the application of empathy and emotional intelligence (EI) in modern leadership by examining the teachings and actions of Jesus Christ. Drawing upon Daniel Goleman’s EI framework, the study analyzes how components such as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills were embodied in Jesus’s interactions and parables as recorded in the Gospels. Examples include Jesus’s compassionate engagement with marginalized individuals, his consistent self-reflection and regulation, and his ability to communicate purpose-driven vision. This conceptual study synthesizes insights from psychological and management theories to illustrate how Jesus’s example can guide leaders today in fostering trust, improving communication, and promoting teamwork and productivity. The paper suggests that by embracing empathy and emotional intelligence, modern leaders can inspire higher organizational commitment and create supportive, productive work environments.

Unveiling the Ethical Challenges of Artificial Intelligence
(MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA (MCI), 2024-12) Gupta, Shikha; Bansal, Rama; Arundhati; Shankar, Kishori Ravi
Artificial intelligence (AI) is touted to be one of the most path-breaking technological advancements of contemporary times. It is seen as capable of transforming all aspects of human life, ranging from healthcare to finance to education to crime prevention. AI basically refers to a machine’s capacity for carrying out tasks that otherwise required human intelligence. Mainly, this involves identifying problems, devising solutions and making decisions based on pattern detection. The capacity to do these and more promises greater efficiency and productivity. Nevertheless, there are significant challenges on the path to widespread AI adoption, ranging from workplace adaptation to ethical issues surrounding misuse and replication of social biases. We argue that these challenges can be overcome through multidisciplinary dialogues among the multiple stakeholders who stand to be affected by AI usage, development and adoption.

    Gandhi: Contradictions and Consistency
(MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA (MCI), 2024-07) Kaur, Simer Preet
Gandhi, his philosophy and his way of life had a deep impact on the social, economic, cultural and political milieu of not just India but the entire world. There was no aspect of life Gandhian thought didn’t touch. Gandhi was not a theorist, he was rather a practical philosopher, and his writings emerged mainly during the many social, economic and political actions he undertook. His approach to answering questions is more realistic and practical rather than being academic and consistent throughout. Many apparent inconsistencies emerge in Gandhi’s writings and speeches. Being a practical-idealist, he was not consistent but changed his views according to practical needs. Many inconsistencies can be found in his writings and he readily admits to these. He is much criticised because of his seemingly changing and sometimes contradictory words. However, on closer reading, his writings and his philosophies which reflect his world view, reveal a clarity of thought with which he could evaluate and assess each idea and situation in a specific context. he did not pretend to have unswerving views but changed them as required. He readily admits himself to being inconsistent and contradicts his previous stands whenever he feels the need. These inconsistencies, rather than being flaws, were a reflection of an ever-developing personality who believed in the relativity of truth.

The Dynamics of Gender in Translation
(MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA (MCI), 2024-12) Jain, Indu
Abstract: Gender is perhaps one of the most restless terms in the English language, a word whose uses seem to be forever changing, always on the move, producing new inflexions of meaning. One talks about gender roles and the gender gap, questions ideas that are gender-biased or gender-specific. It is a much-contested concept, slippery yet indispensable. In this essay, I will investigate the role of gender in translation drawing primarily from the comprehensive study of feminist issues in translation theory and practice by Sherry Simon and Luise von Flotow’s,2 and their useful discussion of feminist translations. I will also examine Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak’s3,4,5,6 commentaries on her translations of the Bengali language writer Mahasweta Devi,7,8 which have forcefully articulated the material reality of postcolonial nationalism from the embodied standpoint of tribal, subaltern women.

(MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA (MCI), 2024-12) Giri, Snigdha; Chattopadhyay, Subhra
The Participatory Irrigation Management bodies in India vary considerably in their nature and funding sources with both the Government and donor agencies like World Bank assisting the practice financially. Thus it becomes interesting to trace the variability of the differently funded bodies in terms of participation. This paper throws light on the participatory irrigation management in the drought prone district of Purulia in the Indian state of West Bengal. It considers the government funded Users Groups and the World Bank funded Water Users Associations from the district and traces their variability in participation. The study employs the Participation Index to understand the participation level among the stakeholders and finds that World Bank funded groups have higher participation rates than the government funded ones. This variability has been confirmed for statistical significance using an Independent t test. The Factor Analysis was conducted to find that the responsibility sharing among the members is the most significant determinant of participation. Other significant factors include group size, practice of occupations other than agriculture, the participation type, role of the funding agency and financial management by the members. The study significantly contributes to understanding the community resource management and the nature of donor funded participatory bodies. Thus its applicability can be tested across similar geo-physical set ups across the globe.

Ethnic Identity Crisis of the Migrant Garos in the Dooars Areas of West Bengal: Some Recent Challenges
(Board Members of International Journal of Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies, 2023-06) Samanta, Suman Kalyan
The migrant Garos of the Dooars region migrated from the Garo hills and resided in the tea garden and forest centred Dooars region of Jalpaiguri district for many years ago. In this new ecological setting, they have been adopted themselves. But due to the imposed restriction on the access to forest products, gradual decrease of forest resources, low wage earning rate in the tea garden, dominancy by several Hindu caste groups and some other circumstances they have been facing the more crises which ultimately forced them to change their own traditional way of living. Linguistically they are not able to maintain purity but rather become gradually habituated to a more mixture language. Nearly all the migrant Garos are converted to Christianity as a result they have loose many of their traditional practices and features. Now a day's, forceful Christianization within the community and strong rivalry between various Christian groups of these migrant Garos sometimes create an identity crisis. Not only that, in the question of matrilineality they almost have lost their traditional identity. To realize the actual situation the study has been conducted in the Dooars areas of northern West Bengal with the help of various traditional anthropological field methods

Political Participation of Scheduled Caste Women Through SHGS In West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh
(Board Members of International Journal of Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies, 2023-06) Nelapudi, Krishana Murty; Mani, N.Nirmala
The concept of women empowerment is the outcome of several important critiques and debates generated by the women’s movement throughout the world, particularly by the third world feminists. Empowerment of women means the materialization of the relocation of power challenging the patriarchal ideology which justifies the male dominance. ‘Becoming powerful’ is the literal meaning of the term empowerment. Empowerment can be achieved through transformation of the structures or institutions that reinforce and perpetuate gender discrimination. Empowerment is a process that enables women to gain access to and control of available political, social and economic resources as well as the required information. It is also defined as the process by which the powerless gain greater control over the circumstances and control both resource and ideology that governs their lives. Women’s participation in the village based formal or non-formal organizations has made significant changes in their social status and position in the family. It permits them to participate in rural development for their own upliftment. It also gives them an opportunity to work in groups for common interest, associate with the on-going development programmes, articulate their needs and assume leadership in the national development process. In order to ascertain the political awareness and involvement of the members of the SHG in political affairs, the respondents were asked certain questions to access their political awareness which had an influence in exercising their political right.
