College of Public Health SciencesMonitoring HIV treatment success includes a major portion in antiretroviral drug treatment. Antiretroviral drugs (ARV) do not eradicate the virus but they maintain viral replication at low levels. The study of ARV taking among migrants is an interesting issue. This study is aimed to identify factors which facilitate or constrain ARV taking among Myanmar migrant ARV users in the hospitals in central region of Thailand. It is expected to know factors affecting ARV taking in Myanmar migrants and to provide future specific intervention to increase and maintain high level of adherence. The qualitative study purposively selected 27 participants from 4 hospitals of Thailand (Sattahip Hospital, Photharam Hospital, Ratchburi Hospital, and Samut Sakhon Hospital). To develop the study, the participants were asked by in-depth interview. The number of participants regularly taking ARV and those having dose absence are nearly the same. Their incomes are not enough for long term ARV treatment taking. Therefore, free of charge treatment strongly improves their long term regular ARV taking. Their immigration registration highly affects to their free treatment. As regards the patients’ condition, the frequency of medical taking and opportunistic infection/clinical symptoms affected ARV taking. Social and family support and knowledge from hospitals result in improving their self awareness. Despite these factors, self awareness itself is more important for this Myanmar migrant group. In conclusion, economic concern, work related factors, immigration registration and self awareness are affected Myanmar migrants ARV taking.Item Developing an action plan for development of information system according to Thailand International Public sector standard management system and outcomes Roi-et provincial public health office / Oranud Suwanasri.(Bangkok : College of Public Health,, 2001-01-13T16:51:26Z) Oranud Suwanasri; Chulalongkorn Unversirty. College of Public Health SciencesThe purpose of the study is to find the relationship between the accessibility to information and the knowledge of the risk factors and preventive behaviours of CVDs and the practice of CVD related healthy behaviours among individuals above 30 y of age in the Maldives capital, Male'. The study also describes socio-demographic characteristics, source of information on cardiovascular disease risk factors and preventive behaviours. A cross sectional descriptive and analytical study with a self-administered anonymous questionnaire NAIth a systematic sampling method, using one adult per household. The results showed that about 52% of the respondents had moderate knowledge about prevention and risk factors of CVD. The survey showed that the knowledge had a significant association with marital status (p\<0.004) and occupation (p\<0.00 I ). Respondents from the fishing and agriculture sector had less knowledge. There was a significant association between level of knowledge score and rate of physical activities. And the main source of information on CVD risk factors and preventive behaviours were from TV. There was a significant association between accessibility to information on CVD and knowledge on CVD risk factors and preventive behaviours. From the results obtained from the study it is showed that only 12.1% of the respondents were consuming the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables, only 26.1% of the respondents were practicing 30 minutes of vigorous physical activity at least 3 times a week and 25.6% of the respondents were current smokers. However, Majority of respondents intend to change their behaviour to healthier one. 92.5% of the respondents intended to eat more fruits and vegetables, 92.1% of the respondents and among the current smokers 69.6% intended to quit smoking. Men tend to practice more of the recommended level, Majority of younger age group (30-40 years) was following recommended level of physical activity and also people with history of CVD related illness were also following the recommended rate of physical activity. The results also showed that respondents with history of medical illness were eating more fruits and vegetables. There was a highly significant association between gender (p\<0.001) and occupation (p\<0.001) and consumption of tobacco. Males and people employed in fishing and agriculture were smoking more.Item Preventive behaviors of tuberculosis among Myanmar migrants at Muang district, Phuket province, Thailand(Bangkok : College of Public Health Sciences, 2008, 2008) Hnin Thawda Thwin; นิ่น ต่อดา ทวิน; Robert S. Chapman, M.D, M.P.H; Chulalongkorn University. College of Public Health SciencesThis study aimed to explore the factors related to preventive behaviors of tuberculosis among Myanmar migrants at Muang District, Phuket Province, Thailand. This was a cross- sectional study. The data were obtained from 15 migrant communities. Muang district was selected purposively then cluster sampling according to occupations followed by convenience sampling within occupation. A total of 342 subjects participated. Non parametric tests were used for hypothesis testing because preventive behavior score was not normally distributed. Preventive behaviors were at good level (≥80% of total possible score) in 43.6%, the overall knowledge of the respondents at good level was 30.1% and perception at good level was 45.3%. 49.4% had high barriers to preventive behaviors. 12% had never received TB- related information and 74.6% did not know about TB treatment. Migrants received information relating to TB from various sources, but very few received it from family members or drug stores. There were significant associations between most of the sociodemographic characteristics and preventive behaviors (p\<0.05). TB prevention practices improved with increasing age, and females had better practice than male. Married respondents had good behaviors and TB prevention practices higher as the respondent’s were more educated. Burmese practices were better than in other ethnic groups and registered had higher prevention practice than unregistered. Preventive behavior score was significantly positively associated with knowledge score (p\<0.001), but was not associated with perception score or barrier score. There was a negative association between knowledge and barrier score. Knowledge was positively associated with perception (p\<0.001), but barrier and perception were negatively associated. There were 7 questions relating to preventive behavior, and these were assessed in relation to independent variables. Knowledge score was positively associated with behavior for 6 questions (5 significant and 1 marginally significant (p=0.056)). Perception score was positively associated for 4 questions (3 significant). Barrier score was not consistently associated with preventive behavior. In order to improve TB preventive behaviors, it is recommended to increase the awareness of TB thorough health education disseminated in media like brochures, posters and health information programs. This education should be available especially during non-working hours. Hospitals should provide services not only for registered but also for unregistered migrants.Item Health effects of pesticide use in agriculturists at Tambon Krabinoi, Amphur Meuang, Krabi Province in 2007 / Paisit Boonyakawee(2007, 2009-01-13T16:51:27Z) Paisit Boonyakawee; Chapman, Robert Sedgwick, advisor; Chulalongkorn University.
