Abstract
The moisture, fiber and trace element content of some commonly available leafy vagetables in the Sri Lankan market have been determined. The leafy vedetables which were investigated in this project were gotukola, hata-wariya, kankum, katuru-murunga, kurinnan, mukunuwenna, niviti, sarana and velpenela. All varieties of leafy vegetables were found to contain significan amount of water. Out of the elements investigated (Ca, Cu, Fe,Mg, K, Na, Zn) all leafyvegetables were found to contain high amount of potassium. In addition to potassium. some leafy vegetables were found to be rich sources of calcium and magnesium with gotukola, katurumurunga, and niviti leading the list. sodium was also found to an extent comparable to
