dc.description.abstractA 22-year-old man with homozygous sickle cell disease presented with recurrent fever, right upper quadrant pain and jaundice. Liver biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of hepatic sickling crisis; the symptoms responded to hydroxyurea therapy. Hepatic vasocclusive crisis can diagnosed on liver biopsy, and need not be a diagnosis of exclusion.en_US
