dc.description.abstract | Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common of benign salivary gland tumors (80%). It is an epithelial derivation and normally appears as a well circumscribed, benign tumor, which may or may not be encapsulated. PA affects both the major and minor salivary glands and accounts for 40–70% of all tumors. The parotid gland is the most affected major salivary gland. Globally, 13.9–51.4% of all salivary gland tumors arise from an intraoral site, and 34.7–67.1% of them are benign. Usually manifest as a slow progressing asymptomatic swelling. The diagnosis is made by the clinical and histopathological examination. The treatment of PA is surgical excision. Malignant transformation, though rare, has been reported. In this article, we report cases series study of PA with a brief literature review. The average age of the patients (five females) was 33.8 years. The average site of involvement includes a parotid gland 0.4%, a minor salivary gland, and a submandibular gland 0.2%. All the cases were predominantly seen in females. | en_US |
