Abstract
OBJECTVE: To develope the predictive intrauterine fetal weight equation by using real time ultrasound to measure fetal abdominal circumference and biparietal diameter. METHOD: A prospective descriptive study was conducted during July 3, 2005 to February 9, 2006 in single pregnant wemen in the labour room of Somdej Prachoataksinmaharaj Hospital. Data analysis used the software for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t–test and regression analysis with significant level at 0.01. RESULTS: Eighty nine pregnant wemen were included in the study. The predictive intrauterine fetal weight equation was 52.073+(1.003xgrams of ultrasound estimate fetal weight) (p \< 0.001). This predictive equation had 68.5% prediction of fetal weight. The mean fetal weight from the equation was 2997.57 grams while the mean real fetal weight was 2997.98 grams. CONCLUSIONS: Using real time ultrasound for fetal abdominal circumference and biparietal diameter measurement has high accuracy for prediction of intrauterine fetal weight as compared with other current methods.
