Item Oesophageal manometry in noncardiac chest pain.(1994-04-01) Suthahar, D R; Malathi, S; Vidyanathan, V; Ranjan, R; Kumar, S J; Ramathilakam, S; Dinakaran, N; Jayanthi, VChest pain of oesophageal origin is an important differential diagnosis in patients with cardiac chest pain. A preliminary survey of 40 patients with noncardiac chest pain (NCCP) revealed oesophageal motility disorder in 47.5%; achalasia cardia being the most frequent disease (47.3%). 15.8% of these patients with motility disorder had features of progressive systemic sclerosis and another 15.8% had non specific oesophageal motility disorder (variants). Compared to barium swallow, oesophageal manometry was found to be superior in the diagnosis of oesophageal motility disorder.Item Traumatic eventration of diaphragm complicated by mesenteroaxial volvulus of the stomach.(1994-07-01) Jayanthi, V; Vidyanathan, V; Mathai, V; Muthusami, J C; Jesudason, S BDiaphragmatic disruption is an uncommon consequence of blunt trauma and is often overlooked unless there is a high index of clinical suspicion. A case of eventration of left dome of diaphragm following trauma with mesenteroaxial volvulus of the stomach is presented. Anatomical considerations on levels of diaphragm on chest x-ray has been elaborated.
