Item Actions of adrenaline, nor-adrenaline and acetylcholine on rabbit's auricle at high and low temperatures.(1967-09-01) Achar, M V; Agrawala, I P; Sehgal, SItem AIDS in India: a report of three cases with review of literatures.(1988-06-01) Sehgal, S; Arora, S K; Rajwanshi, A; Deodhar, S DSera from 3500 individuals including patients of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, patients with sexually transmitted diseases, leprosy, jail inmates, healthy laboratory workers and patients on hemodialysis were screened for antibodies against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as a sero surveillance exercise of one of the centers set up by the India Council of Medical Research at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Candigarh. Three individuals were found to be strongly positive by ELISA using the Wellcozyme kit, with no background noise in the population studies. These three patients were also evaluated by the Western blot technique and showed strong antibody reaction to all the major gene products. It was also possible to ascertain the approximate incubation period of infection in a case who rapidly developed full blown AIDS and died of wasting syndrome. Comprehensive data of 14 cases was also collected from all the centers in India and in every case one could trace the contact outside India. None of the 3 cases studied at our center had Kaposi's sarcoma. These observations could be important landmarks in the epidemiology of AIDS in India.Item Alpha foetoprotein in liver disease.(1977-03-01) Sehgal, S; Aikat, B KItem alpha1 Antitrypsin deficiency in chronic lung disease patients.(1977-10-01) Malik, S K; Khatri, G K; Sehgal, SItem Antibodies in CSF to certain non-enteroviral agents in viral infections of central nervous system.(1971-03-01) Agarwal, S C; Sehgal, S; Bardoloi, J N; Mahajan, R CItem Antibodies of farmer's lung disease in patients of chronic non specific bronchitis.(1982-01-01) Jindal, S K; Malik, S K; Sehgal, SItem Antibodies to extractable nuclear antigens in psoriasis vulgaris.(1988-03-01) Sehgal, S; Kumar, B; Kaur, S; Datta, U; Anand, SItem Antibodies to hepatitis C virus in blood donors.(1992-01-01) Sood, G; Chauhan, A; Sehgal, S; Agnihotri, S; Dilawari, J BItem Antibody against Coxiella burnetti in animals and humans in Delhi.(1987-06-01) Rana, U V; Sehgal, S; Bhatia, R; Bhardwaj, MItem Antigenic analysis of Cysticercus cellulosae by crossed immunoelectrophoresis & its role in immune diagnosis of neurocysticercosis.(1990-01-01) Katti, M K; Jagannath, C; Gokul, B N; Chandramuki, A; Sehgal, SThe antigenic composition of Cysticercus cellulosae cysts excised from infected pig and autopsied human brain was analysed by crossed immunoelectrophoresis with an intermediate gel technique using rabbit hyperimmune serum. Normal pork muscle and human brain antigen were used to differentiate parasite derived components from that of host. Attempts were made to look for the rich source of parasitic immunodominant antigens by analysing preparations of different parts of cyst namely scolex and fluid using rabbit hyperimmune serum. Twenty three antigenic components were identified in sonicate extract of porcine cyst, of which 15 were parasite derived. On comparison with antigens of whole cyst sonicate, scolex showed 10, cyst fluid 9 and human cyst sonicate 11 parasite derived antigens. Serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of neurocysticercotic patients reacted with 12 parasite derived antigens of porcine cyst sonicate (PCS) in a heterogenous manner. It was also noticed that human cyst sonicate (HCS) lacked 4 of the parasite derived antigens present in the PCS.Item Antimyocardial antibodies in the diagnosis and prognosis of coronary heart disease.(1977-03-01) Khahra, S; Jindal, S K; Sehgal, S; Wahi, P LItem Antinuclear antibody activity of IgD immunoglobulins.(1986-06-01) Sehgal, S; Sharma, B KItem Arthritis in hypogammaglobulinemia.(1998-04-15) Salaria, M; Singh, S; Dutta, U; Sehgal, S; Kumar, LItem An association of acute myeloid leukaemia and multiple myeloma: a case study.(1991-03-01) Dash, S; Sarode, R; Day, P; Sehgal, SA case of denovo presentation of acute myeloid leukaemia with multiple myeloma is reported in a 32 years old male. He presented with pancytopenia and aleukaemic leukaemia. Bone marrow examination revealed presence of acute myeloid leukaemia and sheets of plasma cells. Serum electrophoresis showed a M protein which was characterised to be Ig lambda with decrease in normal immunoglobulin levels.Item Ataxia-telangiectasia syndrome in 2 siblings.(1975-10-01) Kumar, L; Sehgal, SItem Australia antigen-antibody in hepatitis and other chronic liver disorder.(1981-07-01) Datta, D V; Sehgal, S; Schorber, AItem Auto-antibodies in thyroid pathology: clinical studies.(1968-08-01) Sehgal, S; Aikat, B K; Datta, B NItem Auto-antibody profile in systemic lupus erythematosus.(1990-01-01) Jayaram, N; Sharma, B K; Sehgal, SThirty cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were selected on the basis of revised ARA criteria (American Rheumatology Association) and their sera examined for the presence of various auto-antibodies. The male to female ratio was 1:5 and joint manifestations were the commonest mode of presentation. The frequency of various manifestations was found to differ between the two sexes. Renal lesions were observed in 9 (nine) cases. ANF was detected in 28 of the 30 cases and the diffuse pattern was the commonest (11 cases) (37.7%). Six cases had very high titres (a titre of more than 1:1280) of antinuclear factor. Antibodies to DNA were detected in 9 cases (30%). These patients tended to have more severe disease, with high titres of ANF and low complement levels. Presence of antibodies to DNA, however, could not be correlated with the severity of renal lesions. Anti Sm antibody was found in 8 cases (26.7%), anti nRNP antibody in 19 cases (63.3%) and antihistone antibodies in 22 cases (73.3%). Patients harbouring any of these three antibodies tended to have a milder clinical disease.Item Bacteriological study of drinking water during epidemic of cholera in Delhi.(1989-03-01) Baveja, C P; Chattopadhya, D; Kumari, S; Dutta, K K; Sehgal, SSixty drinking water samples collected from various sources in different areas of Delhi during epidemic of cholera and gastroenteritis were analysed for bacteriological standards. Only 27 (45 per cent) samples were found to be satisfactory for human consumption. Remaining thirty-three (55 per cent) samples showed presence of coliform organisms with MPN value ranging from 10 to 1800+ per 100 ml. Among these positive samples, 31 (93.9 per cent) samples contained faecal coli. Twenty out of thirty (66.6 per cent) Hand pump, 9 out of 21 (42.8 per cent) Taps 2 out of 4 (50 per cent) Tube well and 2 out of 5 (40 per cent) of miscellaneous sources showed contamination with coliform organisms.Item Canine rabies in and around Delhi--a 16 years study.(1988-06-01) Bhatia, R; Bhardwaj, M; Sehgal, S
