Item Correlation between prostate specific antigen and prostate volume with disease symptom severity assessed by international prostate symptom score(Medip Academy, 2023-04) Salvi, N.; Vyas, S.; Bhatt, R.; Patel, P.; Patel, S.; Agarwal, C.Background: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is clinically defined as prostate adenoma, resulting in bladder outlet obstruction (BOO), which may eventually harm the bladder and even kidneys. For differential diagnosis of male LUTS, uroflowmetry can be used together with non-invasive ultrasound to ascertain the flow rate and IPP. PSA is also an important indicator for differential diagnosis. International prostate symptoms score (IPSS) is used to assess the severity of the symptoms for clinical BPH. There is also a recommendation to consider the quality of life (QoL) index, where a QoL score of ?3 is considered as worrisome. Methods: This was a retro-prospective study based on secondary and primary data collection and analysis, pertaining to BPH patients who visited the study site previously as well as those who are coming for regular follow-up since 2019. Patient enrolment was done at a teaching hospital Shree Krishna Hospital affiliated to the Pramukh Swami Medical College, Bhaikaka University, Karamsad. About 100 patients presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and histo-pathologically proven cases of BPH were enrolled to pursue research objectives. All patients were followed up to a period of 3-months after initiating the treatment and disease severity through IPSS and quality of life upon completion of treatment were also assessed. Results: PSA is also an important indicator for differential diagnosis, which is generally less than 1 ?g/l in patients in absence of clinically confirmed BPH. In our study, mean prostate volume was reported to be 43.46±19.35 cc. A positive correlation was observed between prostate volume and serum PSA with disease severity. Conclusions: Our study evaluated the IPSS to predict the disease severity and correlated it with quality of life, prostate volume and serum PSA. Our findings were in line with currently available evidences, and suggested that QoL, prostate volume and serum PSA are better predictors of disease severity, IPSS.Item Correlation Of Spirometry And Six Minute Walk Test (6MWT) In Patients Of Stable COPD(Association of Health Professionals and Health Educators, 2022-05) Shah, A; Jindal, S; Tripathi, S; Prajapati, P; Patel, S.Background: Spirometryis the GOLD standard for the diagnosis of COPD. This test also grades the severity of the disease which helps in the management of patients. Many times Spirometry is not available in remote areas. In these situations 6MWT can be done. 6 minute walk test (6MWT) is a simple test to assess patient’s functional capacity (ability for day to day activities).Material And Methods:A prospective study was conducted in the department of Respiratory Medicine, AMC MET MEDICAL COLLEGE, L.G. HOSPITAL, AHMEDABAD for 6 months from date of Confirmation of IRB.The patient who was a confirmed and stable case of COPD and who gave consent was taken for the study. Conclusion:The 6MWT plays a major role in measuring the functional status and disease tolerance of COPD patients. Also, it is observed that as severity of FEV1 increses 6MWD decreses. This suggests that in the absence of spirometry 6MWT is a reasonable tool for the assessment of disease severity and functional status in COPD Patients.Item Morbidity And Mortality Of Whipple Procedure(Association of Health Professionals and Health Educators, 2021-04) Rabari, M; Mistry, R; Patel, S.Background:To ascertain the rate and factors affecting morbidity and mortality in patients undergoing Whipple Procedure. KEY WORDS:Morbidity,Whipple procedure, post operative complications INTRODUCTION: Pancreaticoduodenectomy, also called the Whipple operation, is a common operation in major centers worldwide. It is done mostly for periampullary cancers and very rarely for benign diseases. Over the years the operation and its morbidity and mortality have been subject to much research. Starting from the initial days postoperative mortality rate has come down but morbidity rate still remains high. Material & Methods:A study of 12 cases of whipple procedure carried out in dept of general surgery, VS AND SVP hospital from January 2019 to June 2020 OBSERVATION AND Results:There were 12 patients and half of them developed morbidity. Surgical site infection was the most common complication (33.33%) followed by pulmonary complications (16.67%) and bile leak (8.33%). Half of the Mortality rate was due to pulmonary complication. Conclusion:Pancreatoduodenectomy was studied with regards to morbidity and mortality in our hospital. The morbidity rate is comparable to that of other centres. Pulmonary complications were the most common cause of mortality. Preoperative Hypoalbuminemia is a significant predictor of postoperative morbidity. Surgical site infection was the most common morbidity. Whipple procedure is a complex procedure with comparatively less mortality, but more morbidity in our hospital.Item Population Dynamics of Gram Pod Borer (Helicoverpa armigera Hubner, 1805) and its Larval Parasitoid (Campoletis chlorideae Uchida, 1957) on Chickpea(Ms. M. B. Mondal, 2023-12) Tomar, N; Marabi, RS; Patel, S.The present investigation was carried out to study the population dynamics of gram pod borer (Helicoverpa armigera Hubner, 1805) and its larval parasitoid (Campoletis chlorideae, Uchida, 1957) on chickpea during the Rabi season 2020-21 at College of Agriculture, JNKVV, Tikamgarh (M.P.). The egg and larval population of gram pod borer (Helicoverpa armigera) were first observed on vegetative stages at 49th SW (i.e. 3rd to 9th December) and 50th SW (i.e. 10th to 16th December), respectively and were available till the maturity of crop with two peaks i.e. first and second peak at 3rd SW and at 9th SW, respectively. The result of correlation studies revealed that both number of eggs and larval populations were found significant positive correlation with maximum temperature and evaporation. While, both of these egg numbers and larval populations were found to be significant negative correlation with morning RH. The larval parasitoid population (C. chlorideae) first appeared at vegetative stage of the crop at 51st SW (i.e. 17th to 23rd December) (0.20 parasitoid/mrl) with two peak points first at 3rd SW and second at 6th SW. The result of correlation studies revealed that the larval parasitoid population found significant positive correlation with morning RH, whereas it was exhibited significant negative correlation with maximum and minimum temperature and evaporation, respectively.Item Qualitative - Binary, Nominal and Ordinal Data Analysis in Medical Science(Medsci Publications, 2022-09) Patel, S.The outcome of any medical research is belonged to the human beings. So far, less than 30 cases of sarcina isolated from the stomach have been reported. Herein, we describe a case of a 66-year-old male with a history of persistent epigastric pain and regurgitation. The upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy revealed gastric erythema, edema, ulceration, and food bezoar. A gastric biopsy was done to rule out lymphoma. On histopathological examination, sarcina Ventriculi was identified. This organism is likely to get underreported as it may not be that obvious on routinely stained biopsies. Given its association with life-threatening illness such as emphysematous gastritis and perforation, awareness of this organism is important. It's presence in gastric biopsies must be mentioned in the report and should prompt the clinicians to investigate further for functional causes of delayed gastric emptying and gastric outlet obstruction like occult malignancy.Item Study of automated hematology analyzer抯 scatterplot patterns in white blood cell disorders(Medip Academy, 2024-03) Tailor, T.; Jivani, T.; Jagirdar, A.; Patel, S.Background: Automated hematology analyzers produce scattergrams that can be used as screening tool for various hematological conditions and efficiently shorten turnaround times. Aim was to study scattergram patterns of various while blood cell disorders and assess their efficacy compared to a peripheral blood smear for diagnosis of various disorders. Methods: Scattergram findings generated by UniCel DxH 800 automated hematology analyzer, a 5-part differential analyzer. The graphic displays have been compiled over a period of 3 months from blood samples received for CBC. Samples that the counter flagged as abnormal for white blood cell were chosen. Based on the scatterplots, a preliminary diagnosis was formed. It was compared with the peripheral blood smear (PBS) findings which were taken as the gold standard. Results: The scatterplots showed unique patterns for various disorders on the basis of location, shape, size, density of the cells and their clustering. The scattergram analyser showed 90% sensitivity and 88% specificity for diagnosing hematological disorders. A 97-100% accuracy rate was reported showing excellent correlation between PBS result and WBC parameter result in cell counter analyzers. Conclusions: Not all cases of haematological malignancy exhibit cytopenias or cytosis at initial presentation. Therefore, these scatter plots offer helpful information that prompts a hematopathologist to suspiciously screen the peripheral smear in cases with normal counts. Scattergram analysis suspects a diagnosis earlier than peripheral smear examination. Given their strong correlation with a variety of WBC disorders and confirmed by PBS, WBC scatterplots can be used as a screening tool.
