Item A comparative study of oral manifestations of HIV among pediatric patients(Educational Society for Excellence, 2016) Dutta, N; Gupta, VK; Shetty, R; Roy, A; Dani, G; Pandey, VIntroduction: The HIV pandemic has become a human, social as well as economic disaster, with far reaching inferences for individuals, communities and countries. The distribution of some of the specific oral manifestations is reported to differ between adults and children. Thus, the present study was carried to compare the oral manifestations in HIV positive children and HIV negative children. Materials and methods: The present study comprised a total of 90 subjects, divided into 3 groups, 30 HIV positive pediatric patients with HAART, 30 HIV positive pediatric patients without HAART and 30 healthy controls (HIV negative patients). The present study was conducted in the ART centre in Ranchi, Chattisgarh, India. The details to be taken from these children for subsequent analysis include age, CD4+ T cell count and oral lesions. Chi- square test was used to compare the lesions with Pvalue of 0.05 or less was considered for statistical significance and a P-value of 0.02 or less was considered for statistical highly significance. Results: Statistical analysis showed that patients with low CD4+ T cell counts (Group IA) had more number of lesions when compared to the patients with higher CD4 T cell count (Group IB). Dutta N, Gupta VK, Shetty R, Roy A, Dani G, Pandey V. A comparative study of oral manifestations of HIV among pediatric patients. IAIM, 2016; 3(5): 46-52. Page 47 According to individual lesion percentage distribution, it was observed that except hyperpigmentation most of the other lesions where more prevalent in group II than in group I. Mucocele was seen in group III and was not seen in group I and II. Dental caries was prevalent in all the three groups. Conclusion: HIV infected patients receiving HAART, had a significantly lower prevalence of oral lesion as compared to patients without HAART therapyItem Diseases and Pest Management in Nurseries: Challenges, Strategies and Emerging Technologies(Ms. M. B. Mondal, Ph.D., 2025-05) Sharma, K; Shivani; Pandey, V; Keshari, D; Tutlani, A; Khan, RR.Nursery production is significantly affected by diseases and pest infestations, which diminish plant health, marketability, and overall yield. This study examines common nursery diseases, such as powdery mildew, botrytis blight, leaf spot, rust, and root rot, as well as prominent pests like aphids, whiteflies, thrips, and mealybugs. These biological threats lead to severe economic losses, making effective management strategies essential. The analysis emphasizes the role of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) as a sustainable and comprehensive approach. By combining cultural, biological, and chemical control methods, IPM effectively reduces pest populations while minimizing environmental impact. The use of biological control agents, such as predatory insects and beneficial microbes, is presented as an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic pesticides. Nursery crops are particularly vulnerable to leaf spot, damping-off, and anthracnose, which significantly compromise plant quality. Additionally, pests like the red palm weevil, rhinoceros beetle, and tea mosquito bug cause substantial damage to coconut, areca nut, and other plantation crops, all of which are vital to the region's economy. Managing these pests effectively requires region-specific strategies, including the use of botanical extracts, pheromone traps, and soil solarization. Emerging technologies, such as drone-based pesticide application, AI-powered pest detection, and genetic engineering for disease-resistant plants, have been identified as potential solutions for enhancing nursery productivity. These innovations offer precision and efficiency, reducing chemical usage while improving plant health. Effective disease and pest management in nurseries necessitates a multifaceted approach that integrates traditional techniques with modern innovations. The adoption of IPM strategies and cutting-edge technologies can significantly enhance plant protection, leading to increased productivity and sustainability in the nursery industry.Item Effect of Patient Weight on Hemodynamic Responses to Intrathecal 0.5% Hyperbaric Bupivacaine: A Cross-Sectional Study at a Tertiary Care Center in Indore, Madhya Pradesh(Society for Scientific Research, 2024-07) Tiwari, P; Pandey, V; Singh, T; Dwivedi, J; Saxena, DBackground: The study assessed the effect of the patient's weight on hemodynamic variables after intrathecal administration of a fixed dose of 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacaine. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study included 200 patients in tertiary health care. All patients were monitored for 1 hour to assess blood pressure and heart rate. Systolic blood pressure, mean blood pressure and heart rate were recorded at the following periods: preoperatively, just after giving a supine position following SAB, after 5 min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, and 1 hour and observations were recorded on a pre-structured proforma. Results: The effect of weight was clinically and statistically significant with p value<0.05 after intrathecal administration of the fixed dose of 0.5% hyperbaric bupivacaine. However, the height impact is clinically essential but statistically non-significant with a p-value>0.05. Conclusion: From the observations, results, and statistical analysis of this study, we concluded that patients with higher weight achieve more blood pressure falls than thin patients after administering a fixed dose of intrathecal bupivacaine 0.5%, 3 ml.Item Evaluation of oral health status among drug addicts in rehabilitation centre(Educational Society for Excellence, 2016) Singh, R; Chandra, S; Sahu, SK; Pandey, V; Kaur, G.Background: The present study was conducted to investigate the attitude of drug addicts under withdrawal treatment towards oral health so that required interventions can be planned for the good health of those who are in rehabilitation phase of life. Materials and methods: The present study comprised of 30 drug addicts (all males) admitted in the rehabilitation centre in Punjab, India. Data so obtained was subjected to analysis using SPSS version 16. Percentage and mean ± standard deviation was calculated and Chi-square test was used for statistical analysis. Results: Most of the participants (97%) were involved in more than one type of drug abuse and most of them used more than one type of route of drug substance administration. Regarding brushing frequency, about 17% not brushed their teeth regularly and 83% once a day and regarding the use of mouthwashes, 38% never used mouthwash, 59% used occasionally, 3% reported once a day. Most of the participants 92% never used floss to clean their teeth. Significant p value (<0.05) was found on statistical analysis of periodontal status, carious and fractured teeth in relation to oral hygiene practices among drug addicts. Conclusion: The result of the present study emphasis for more attention in designing and implementing oral health programs for addicts.Item Gender awareness among the undergraduate medical students: A cross sectional study from Hyderabad, India(Forum for Medical Ethics Society, 2024-09) Pragjna, V; Shandilya, V; Pandey, V; Sushma, K; Gandhi, AP.Background: Physician trainees need to have robust gender awareness for better professional relationships and patient outcomes. A crosssectional study was conducted among undergraduate (UG) medical students (MBBS) of a medical college in Hyderabad, India, in November 2022, to assess their gender sensitivity (GS) and genderrole ideologies. Methods: A pretested, structured English questionnaire was used for the study, to compute the Nijmegen Gender Awareness Scale in Medicine (NGAMS) of the participants. Results: The mean age of the students was 20.51 years, with the majority being women (112, 61.2%). The mean GS score was 3.11, while the mean scores for genderrole ideology towards patients (GRIP) and genderrole ideology towards doctors (GRID) were 2.56 and 2.56, respectively. In the adjusted analysis, a significantly better GS score was seen among medical students from urban backgrounds. Significantly more egalitarian GRIP was found among women, participants from urban backgrounds, and among those whose mothers were employed. Significantly more egalitarian GRID was found among women and participants whose mothers were employed. There was a significant negative, but low, correlation between the GS domain and the GRIP (r = – 0.241; p < 0.001) and GRID (r = – 0.192; p = 0.009) scores. There was a high, positive correlation between GRID and GRIP (r = 0.812; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Gender awareness is relatively low among Indian medical students and lower still among male students. It was higher among women, particularly among those whose mothers were employed and those who were from urban areas.Item Monotypic angiomyolipoma of the nasal cavity: An extremely rare cause of nasal mass with recurrent epistaxis(Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists, 2020-03) Pandey, V; Khatib, Y; Gupte, P; Pandey, R; Khare, MSMonotypic angiomyolipoma is usually found in the kidneys and is composed predominantly of epithelioid cells which show positivity for melanocyte and smooth muscle markers. It can pose a diagnostic challenge due to a range of differential diagnosis. We report the second case of monotypic angiomyolipoma of nasal cavity and first from India in a 54-year-old male who presented with a nasal polyp. Grossly the tumor was well circumscribed and un-encapsulated. Microscopy showed a large number of epithelioid cells mixed with a few spindle cells, varying sized blood vessels, and focal areas of adipose tissue. Immunohistochemistry was positive for smooth muscle actin (SMA) and human melanoma black (HMB-45) stains. It is important to identify this tumor as it can sometimes be mistaken for malignancy and only needs endoscopic resection.Item Multi-factorial risk stratification in Acute Coronary Syndrome(Educational Society for Excellence, 2016) Chowdhury, P; Pandey, V; Avasthi, R; Kandukuri, MK; Giri, S; Sharma, S.Background: ST elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-ST elevated myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and unstable anginas (UA) are continual spectrum of coronary artery disease (CAD).These are terminal events arising as a result of coronary artery atherosclerosis and superimposed thrombosis.Materials and methods: A prospective study in which a total of 91 patients of either sex aged 20 to 60 years were recruited, of which 30 were STEMI, 31 were NSTEMI/ unstable angina and 30 were age and sex matched healthy controls. Patients with following complaints of maximum 24 hours duration were registered in the emergency department and were included in the study (ACC/AHA Guidelines, 2002).Results: In the present study, 91 subjects were recruited from medical emergency department. All of the subjects were meeting the inclusion criteria. Of the total 91 subjects 30 were of STEMI (Group 1),15 were of NSTEMI (Group 2), 16 were of unstable angina (Group 3) and 30 were controls (Group4).Conclusion: In patients of ACS, MPO is raised as compared to controls. Also in complicated ACS,irrespective of other risk factors, MPO was significantly raised as compared to controls and can beused to predict immediate clinical complication. There is no significant association between MPO, hs Chowdhury P, Pandey V, Avasthi R, Kandukuri MK, Giri S, Sharma S. Multi-factorial risk stratification in Acute Coronary Syndrome. TIMI risk score is a simple prognostication scheme that categorizes a patient's risk of death and ischemic events and provides a basis for therapy.Item Pediatric caecal lymphoma involving ovary in a 12 year old girl – A bad prognostic sign: A rarity.(2015-09) Pandey, V; Kandukuri, Mahesh Kumar; Indira, V; Shanker, V HariPrimary caecal lymphoma or the colonic lymphoma is a rare tumor of the gastrointestinal (GIT) tract and comprises only 0.2-1.2% of all colonic malignancies, both in adults and pediatric age group. The most common variety of colonic or caecal lymphoma is a on-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (NHL) which arises from the lymphoid elements of the intestine. GIT is the most frequently involved site, accounting for 50-60% of all extra nodal lymphomas, and most of them are NHL. In adults, the stomach is the most common location of GIT lymphomas, followed by the small intestine, but the most common GI site of NHL in children is the terminal ileum and the ileo-caecal region. Diagnosis is difficult since lymphoma presents with vague abdominal pain with loss of weight and appetite. It may present as lump abdomen with complications such as intestinal obstruction, bleeding, perforation and peritonitis and intussusseption. Histologically it is B or T cell type with small or large cell variation, but frequently encountered is diffuse large B-cell cell lymphoma (DLBCL). DLBCL has low incidence but favorable outcome in young adults, lesions localized to one area or organ and children below 5 years of age, but has an aggressive course in children between 10-15 years of age and also in adults above 55 years of age. DLBCL or GIT Lymphomas in general have male preponderance. We present a rare case of caecal lymphoma (DLBCL) involving appendix and right ovary in a 12 year old girl who presented with vague symptoms of abdominal pain and abdominal mass. Clinically and radiologically, provisional diagnosis of Ileo-caecal tuberculosis with possibility of adhesions leading to a mass lesion was considered. Histopaththological examination (HPE) revealed the diagnosis and prognosis of the case.Item Soybean Bacterial Endophytes against Anthracnose Disease Collected from Karnataka State: An in-vitro Study(Ms. M. B. Mondal, 2023-11) Jaiswal, S; Rajput, LS; Bhatt, J; Maheshwari, HS; Sharma, MP; Kumar, S; Nataraj, V; Shivakumar, M.; Sharma, R; Pandey, V; Behera, K; Mandloi, S.Endophytes trigger various defence mechanisms within their host plants, engaging primary and secondary protective pathways. This investigation primarily aimed to isolate bacterial endophytes from diverse agroecological regions in Karnataka. Subsequently, these endophytes were assessed for their inhibition against Colletotrichum truncatum using the in-vitro streak plate technique. A total of 43 bacteria isolated from soybean plants and key endophytes showing the inhibition against C. truncatum were in different zones namely, DHW-9(87%), BID-2(85%), BID-13(85%), BID-14(82.50%), DHW-15(80%), BID-15(75%),and BID-16(75%) exhibited notable efficacy against C. truncatum in decreasing order. Among these, the DHW-9 (Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strain P4-32) bacterial endophytes isolated from the North Transition Zone (Dharwad) were highly effective against the pathogen, possibly due to employing many direct and indirect mechanisms. Furthermore, the inhibition potential of the bacterial endophytes varies with and within the place of agroecological zones. In conclusion, it has been observed that the bacterial endophyte DHW-9 inhibited the progression of anthracnose disease caused by C. truncatum in controlled in vitro. Hence, it is imperative to conduct additional experiments, including pot and field studies, to explore its potential to enhance the growth and yield of soybean plants.Item Spermatocytic seminoma with rhabdomyoblastic differentiation: Case report and review of literature(Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists, 2018-09) Pandey, V; Khatib, Y; Khade, AL; Pandey, R; Khare, MSSpermatocytic seminoma (SCS) is an indolent germ cell tumor of the testis. It has an excellent prognosis and orchidectomy is generally curative. Very rarely, it can be complicated by a sarcomatous transformation which is associated with a very aggressive behavior and requires adjuvant therapy. SCS with sarcomatous component is a very rare occurrence with <20 cases described in the world literature of which eight showed rhabdomyoblastic differentiation. We report a case of SCS with rhabdomyosarcomatous differentiation in a 60-year-old male along with a short review of literature.
