A significantly increased (p less than 0.001) mean value (100.8 +/- 27.37 msec, range 80 to 140 msec) of A2-E (early relaxation period) interval on M-mode was observed in thalassemia in comparison to mean level (82.6 +/- 5.7, range 60 to 100 msec) of control population. No significant differences were noted in FS % (fractional shortening) and EF% (ejection fraction) when compared to corresponding normal values respectively. Mean serum iron concentration (142.2 +/- 29.1 micrograms/dl, range 102 to 192 micrograms/dl) was significantly higher in thalassaemia as compared to normal population (mean 106.3 +/- 11.4 micrograms/dl, range 75 to 120 micrograms/dl). There was also a direct correlation between serum iron concentration and A2-E interval. 11 patients (44%) showed abnormal A2-E interval but only 3 patients (12%) showed abnormal percentage of FS and EF. It is therefore concluded that A2-E interval will help to detect early left ventricular dysfunction much before overt and irreversible heart failure becomes manifest and which will also help to optimise transfusion and chelation therapy.Item Emergency treatment of cardiac arrest.(1971-01-16) Kundu, S C; Ghosh, B NItem Evaluation of management of acute myocardial infarction with and without intensive coronary care.(1974-01-01) Mukerjee, A B; Kundu, S C; De, A K; Sen, P K; Dasgupta, SItem Extracranial complications of chronic suppurative otitis media.(2006-01-10) Hossain, M M; Kundu, S C; Haque, M R; Shamsuzzaman, A K; Khan, M K; Halder, K KThe aim of this study was to find out the pattern of extracranial complications of CSOM cases who attended to the department of ENTD, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital during the period from July'1999 to June' 2001. Different types of extracranial complications of CSOM were presented here. A total of 100 cases, diagnosed clinically and radiologically were included in the study of which 66 were male and 34 were female giving a male to female ratio of 1.94 : 1 (p < 0.05). Majority cases (53) were in the age group of 11- 20 years followed by the age group of below 10 years where there were 30 cases. Majority (64) cases came from low socio-economic class. The number of different types of extracranial complications of CSOM were as follows: mastoid abscess 57, discharging sinuses 28, purulent labyrinthitis 07, Bezold's abscess 04, fascial nerve paralysis 03 and zygomatic abscess 01. In all cases of CSOM Cholesteatoma were detected. In 14 cases, Cholesteatoma were associated with granulation tissue/polyp. Modified radical mastoidectomy were performed in all cases. On analyzing the findings of the present study it was observed that mastoid abscess were the predominant extracranial complications of CSOM, affecting mostly the male population of 11 - 20 years age group coming from low socio-economic class.Item Gemfibrozil in dyslipidaemia.(1990-02-01) Kundu, S C; Roxy, S; Batabyal, S KA new lipid regulating agent, Gemfibrozil was evaluated in different types of dyslipidaemias. Out of a total of 34 patients, all completed 12 weeks' treatment and 26 completed 24 weeks' of treatment. A significant reduction in total cholesterol, LDL-c triglyceride and apo-B and an increase in HDL cholesterol and its apoprotein--apo-A were observed. The patients belonged to hyperlipidaemias--types IIa, IIb, and IV. Patients' compliance was good and side effects were minimal.Item Longterm treatment of hypertension with penbutolol.(1984-06-01) Kundu, S C; Bhattacherjee, T D; Banerjee, D; Nandi, J SItem Magnesium.(1970-07-01) Kundu, S CItem Mites in house dust as a cause of bronchial asthma.(1988-02-01) Tandon, N; Saha, G K; Modak, A; Maitra, S B; Kundu, S C; Batabayal, S K
