It can be proudly stated that this system is prevailing here since foundation of this city in 1590 A.D. As it is said that the physicians of Ayurveda and Unani both were among the staff of the first general hospital of Hyderabad city 'Darush-shifa' which was constructed in 1595 A.D. After the Qutub Shahi period the rulers of Asafjahi dynasty also patronised this system. The physicians of this period not only run their clinics but they also teach this system to their pupils privately. Due to the efforts of some eminent Ayurvedic physicians, Ayurveda progressed well. The names and the photos of these physicians have been given in this article. Now this system has a good status here with well established college, hospital and research department etc.Item A brief history of Indian alchemy covering pre-Vedic to Vedic and Ayurvedic period (circa 400 B.C.-800 A.D.).(1993-07-01) Ali, MHistory of Indian alchemy can be traced to pre-Vedic period. The archaeological excavations at Mohenjodaro and Harappa in the Indus valley have brought to light that, the people in ancient India were possessing chemical knowledge as early as in the pre-historic period. In Vedic period single herbs were prescribed. Minerals and animal substances were also prescribed but no compound preparations were in use. Alchemy in India, was started for the preparation of an elixir of life for imparting immortality and later for the transmutation process for converting base metals into gold. Indian alchemy derived its colour and flavour to a large extent from the Tantric cult. Then, during the iatro-chemical period all the previous accumulated alchemical ideas were put into something more practical and tangible. a number of preparations of mercury and other metals were evolved as helpful accessories in medicine. Here a bried history of this Indian alchemy is presented which will give an idea about the development of chemical knowledge in India in its multiple aspects.Item A brief history of Indian alchemy covering transitional and tantric periods (circa 800 A.D.-1300 A.D.).(1996-01-01) Ali, MA brief history of Indian alchemy covering the pre-vedic, vedic and Ayurvedic periods (Circa 4000 B.C. to 800 A.D.) was given in one of the previous issues of this Bulletin, i.e. Volume 23, NO.2, July, 1993, pp. 151-166. In continuation of the same, this article is presented here, giving an account of the development of the chemical knowledge in India during transitional and tantric periods (circa 800 A.D. to 1300 A.D.).Item Character Association and Heritability Analysis in Pakistani Elite Bread Wheat Cultivars.(2014-10) Baloch, Abdul Wahid; Baloch, Shahla Karim; Channa, Siraj Ahmed; Baloch, Abdul Majeed; Ali, M; Junejo, Masood Ahmed; Baloch, Gul MuhammadAn investigation was done on correlation and heritability analysis for 09 characters on 20 advance bread wheat cultivars which were grown in randomized complete block design with three replications during rabi, 2012-13. The trait grain yield per plant made positive and significant association with productive tillers per plant, spike length, spikelets per spike, grains per spike, seed index, total biomass and harvest index. Indicating a thorough selection for these traits will automatically improve seed yield in wheat because the five yield contributing traits are associated among themselves, selection in one of the traits will wholly result in the improvement of the other traits. Significant and negative correlation was revealed by plant height with productive tillers per plant, spike length, spikelets per spike and seed index, suggesting that dwarf wheat genotypes are by and large good yielders. High heritability estimates were observed for seed index, total biomass, grains per spike and plant height, indicating that these traits were predominantly controlled by additive gene effects and direct selection may be effective for these traits.Item Congenital hepatic fibrosis without renal involvement.(1988-05-01) Lubani, M M; Sharda, D C; al-Shab, T; Ali, MItem Correlation between microalbuminuria and angiographic severity of coronary artery disease.(2006-12-18) Reza, A S; Zaher, A; Reza, A Q M; Ali, MMicroalbuminuria has emerged as an important risk factor of considerable prognostic importance for cardiovascular events. Little is known about its impact on the angiographic profile among coronary artery disease patients. The primary aim of the study was to investigate the relationship of microalbuminuria and angiographic severity of coronary artery disease. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in NICVD, a tertiary-care cardiac center in Dhaka, Bangladesh. For this purpose, 72 patients aged 25 to 70 years, who underwent elective coronary angiogram were studied. Urinary albumin to creatinine ratio was used as a measure of microalbuminuria. Angiographic severity of coronary artery disease was measured by number of major vessels involved (vessel score), stenosis score, extent score and number of type B and C lesions. All parameters of angiographic severity were significantly higher in microalbuminuric patients. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient showed significant positive correlation between albumin to creatinine ratio and different parameters of angiographic severity. In multivariate logistic regression analysis odds ratio of having triple vessel coronary artery disease in microalbuminuric patients was 5.6 (95% CI, 1.4 - 22). Microalbuminuria was found to correlate positively and independently with angiographic severity of coronary artery disease.Item Definition of Nidana Pancaka (first chapter of Madhavanidana).(1999-01-15) Ali, MThis is in continuation of the previous article published in this Bulletin of the Indian Institute of the History of Medicine, Volume XXVII, No. 2, July 1997. P. Nos 163 to 171, under the title of "Definition of Nidana Panchaka (First Chapter of Madhava Nidana"). It deals with Nadana, Purvarupa, Rupa, Upashaya and Samprapti as described in the first Chapter of Madhavanidana.Item Definition of Nidana Panchaka (first chapter of Madhavanidana).(1997-07-01) Ali, MThe reputation of a physician depends more upon his skill in diagnosis and prognosis. Hence very much importance is given in Ayurveda for the diagnosis of diseases from a consideration of their etiology, symptoms and prognosis, with an aim to arrive at a correct diagnosis before starting any treatment. Madhavakara has brought to perfection the branch of pathology in his work "Madhava Nidana", which represents an attempt towards the revival of the etiopathogenesis, clinical pathology and diagnosis of a large number of diseases together at one place from classical sources.Item Degranulation of beta-cells of the islets of lagerhans following intragastric administration of magnesium chloride.(1970-01-01) Ali, M; Mishra, R K; Anand, KItem Determinants of use rate of oral rehydration therapy for management of childhood diarrhoea in rural Bangladesh.(2000-09-01) Ali, M; Atkinson, D; Underwood, PIn rural Bangladesh, mothers were interviewed to identify factors that determine the use of oral rehydration therapy (ORT) for management of diarrhoea in children aged less than 5 years. The point prevalence of diarrhoea among 1,600 children was 11.6%, with 46% having acute watery diarrhoea. The overall ORT-use rate was 29%; only 17% of the cases used it adequately. Common reasons for not using ORS included misperception about diarrhoea and age of patients. Other reasons included incorrect assessments, severity, and difficulties with the administration of oral rehydration solutions. Promotion of ORT can be effected by improving the level of understanding of mothers with regard to assessment of severity, early initiation of treatment regardless of age, sex, type of diarrhoea, breast-feeding, and nutrition status.Item Effect of aqueous extract of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba Linn. beans on blood glucose level in normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats.(2004-12-30) Mukhtar, Hayat M; Ansari, S H; Ali, M; Bhat, Z A; Naved, TEffect of feeding orally the aqueous extract of beans of Cyamopsis tetragonoloba was investigated on fasting blood glucose levels in glucose loaded, normal and alloxan-induced diabetic rats and compared with gliclazide, a reference drug. The aqueous extract of beans at 250 mg/kg body wt significantly lowered blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced diabetic rats within 3 hr of administration. Continued administration of the extract at the same dose daily for 10 days produced statistically significant reduction in the blood glucose levels while marginal activity was seen in normal and glucose-loaded rats.Item Egg protein and defatted soya protein on cholesterol induced hypercholesterolaemia and atherosclerosis in rabbits.(1982-06-01) Thakur, C P; Ali, MItem Eminent ayurvedic physicians of Nizam dynasty.(1995-01-01) Bhatnagar, V K; Hussain, S A; Ali, MIt is a biographical work which sheds light on the lives and works of some of the Ayurvedic Physicians flourished during Nizam dynasty. The credit for development of Ayurveda in Hyderabad goes to the eminent Ayurvedic Physicians, mentioned in this articles who taught Ayurveda in their private clinics, rendered their services during the outbreak of epidemics, organised conferences, compiled very useful works on Ayurveda and established an Ayurvedic school on a grand scale which was recognised by the government.Item Fabrication of Hollow Bulb Obturator with Maxillary Partial Denture for Congenital Cleft Palate Defect.(2015-07) Verma, A K; Chaturvedi, Saurabh; Ali, M; Suhag, Ankit; Bhargava, Saurabh; Yadav, HimaniRehabilitation of congenital cleft palate defect improves the quality of life for the patient as normal as possible.
