Treatment with antacids and H2 blockers was unsuccessful in giving them relief. As they had also protozoal infection, treatment with anti-protozoal drugs gave them complete relief in the follow up period of one year after the end of treatment. Hence we have named these conditions simulating peptic ulcer GERD as pseodogerd or protozoal GERD. It is suggested that the person presenting with the symptoms of GERD in our area should be investigated for protozoal infection or should be given treatment of protozoal infection rather than that of peptic ulcers.
