Preliminary report on dapsone DDS resistance in Burmese leprosy patients. Burma Medical Journal. 1981; 27(1): 8-12http://imsear.searo.who.int/handle/123456789/125434During 1976-1977 (one year and six months period) 3998 patients were registered at , Htaukkyant Leprosy Hospital, Rangoon, of these 88 out of 2422 lepromatous leprosy patients were clinically suspected of developing DDS resistance. Skin biopsy specimens from two of such patients were sent in ice for mouse footpad test to London. Both were proved to be DDS resistant. 45 out of 56 skin biopsy specimens sent to Rangoon General Hospital Pathology Unit also support the clinical diagnosis. This represents the prevalence of 2.4 per cent during that year in patients with lepromatous leprosy. The epidemiological features of these patients with DDS resistance is presented. It includes 15 patients with probable primary resistance (patients who showed no response to treatment through out DDS monotherapy) and two patients under the age of ten years. The lepromatous leprosy patients living in Hmawbi township and taking treatment under the national leprosy control team were also studied.DapsoneDDSDrug ResistanceLeprosyPreliminary report on dapsone DDS resistance in Burmese leprosy patients
