C.difficile was isolated using bacterial culture from 7 (5.4%) specimens and the frequency of isolation of toxigenic C. difficile as detected by cytotoxin (tissue culture) assay was 1.1 per cent and 2.4 per cent in healthy young and elderly adults respectively.
