Background : In 1962, the Government of India launched the National TB Programme (NTP), initially focusing on District TB Centres with BCG vaccination and treatment. The elimination of Tuberculosis (TB) in India is hindered by deep-rooted and persistent challenges. Decades of unchecked transmission have left a large proportion of the population with latent TB infection, which can reactivate at any point. A staggering percentage of the population is undernourished - 35% of adults and nearly half of children - compromising their immune systems and increasing the risk of TB reactivation. Additionally, a host of risk factors, including diabetes, indoor air pollution from cooking stoves and smoking, exacerbate the problem.en_US
