Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To determine the pattern of home accidents treated in four types of clinical practice. SETTING: A general practice and four hospital-based practices in accident service, general surgery and paediatric surgery. MATERIALS: Data were collected on a pre-tested questionnaire from 2672 patients who comprised all the home accident patients treated at the 5 centres during a 12 month period. RESULTS: Questionnaire was analysed and results presented in regard to several variables including age, size of household and peak period, location and type of accident. CONCLUSION: The characteristics of the victim, agent, environment, circumstances, cause and time of accident as determined by this study may be useful to formulate a prevention program.
